About Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH)
The origins of Muhimbili National Hospital can be traced back to the period between 1910 and the 1920s, when it was known as Sewahaji Hospital. In 1956, the name changed to Princess Margaret Hospital. After independence in 1961, it became Muhimbili Hospital, and in 1976 it was renamed Muhimbili Medical Centre.
Muhimbili National Hospital was officially established under Act of Parliament No. 5 of 2000 following the separation of the former Muhimbili Medical Centre into Muhimbili National Hospital and the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS), now known as Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). The separation took effect in November 2004.
