Position Overview
Across designated areas or councils, the Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and Nutrition Coordinator will assist with the planning, coordination, execution, and oversight of MNCH and Nutrition activities. In order to improve mother and child health outcomes, the role supports capacity-building initiatives and guarantees the delivery of high-quality programs. In order to guarantee efficient implementation of MNCH and nutrition activities, compliance with national norms, and prompt reporting, the MNCH and Nutrition Coordinator collaborates closely with regional and council health teams, implementing partners, and health facilities.
Key Responsibilities
The MNCH Coordinator will:
- Support high-quality technical delivery of MNCH and nutrition activities under the ACHIEVE project in Tanzania by offering technical guidance, direction, and quality assurance.
Make sure that MNCH and nutrition initiatives adhere to national and international standards, protocols, and recommendations.
Make sure that actions are planned, carried out, and overseen in accordance with the yearly work plan by coordinating with the government, national implementing partner or partners, and other relevant parties.
Organize and oversee the NIP Regional MNCH and Nutrition Officers’ actions to guarantee prompt, effective, and efficient completion of all work plan tasks.
When necessary, assist government Master Trainers in training Facility Champions.
At the level of health facilities, assist and oversee Facility Champion coaching and mentoring initiatives. - As needed, offer ACHIEVE/Tanzania, NIPs, the government, and facility or community health providers any additional technical help, encouraging supervision, and mentoring.
To guarantee that goals and targets are completed on time, keep an eye on Tanzania’s MNCH and nutrition initiatives.
Together with other important employees, partners, and stakeholders, create pertinent deliverables (quarterly or annual reports, field project evaluations, work plan updates, etc.) with the assistance of the ACHIEVE Deputy Director. Make sure that the technical accomplishments, best practices, lessons learned, and any novel models are thoroughly documented.
Every other task as given.
Basic Requirements
Education and Experience:
- 6+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional local education and experience include a bachelor’s degree in public health or a similar profession, a medical degree, or a nursing or midwifery degree.
Additional Qualifications:
- An additional benefit is having a master’s degree in public health, global health, health systems, or a similar discipline.
MNCH and nutrition programs experience, including leadership or coordination at the national level.
proven experience working with national MNCH and nutrition structures, as well as the Ministry of Health.
Work experience in at least one of the following technical domains: HIV services, nutrition, maternal health, child health, and other health-related fields.
knowledge about USG/PEPFAR-funded initiatives in Tanzania.
experience working with donor initiatives that call for community and/or health facility involvement.
prior experience collaborating with local and foreign partners.
experience implementing US/PEPFAR-funded initiatives involving subawards and CSOs.
Excellent delivery and facilitation abilities.
proficient in Kiswahili and written and spoken English.
