Safety and compliance
The Brewing Artisan is expected to strictly follow workplace health and safety regulations. This includes the correct use of personal protective equipment, maintaining safe welding practices, and ensuring proper housekeeping in all work areas. The role also requires compliance with lockout/tagout procedures and all safety rules during maintenance activities.
Mechanical maintenance and repairs
The position involves carrying out both preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical machinery and equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing faults and repairing pumps, motors, conveyors, gearboxes, valves, and related systems. The artisan will be required to dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components while ensuring that all work meets required safety and quality standards.
Welding and fabrication
A major part of the role includes welding and fabrication duties. The successful candidate should be able to perform MIG, TIG, Arc, and Gas welding. The role also includes fabricating and installing steel structures, brackets, frames, piping, and equipment supports. Candidates must be able to read and interpret welding drawings and technical blueprints, as well as carry out cutting, grinding, and fitting of metal components. Welded surfaces and structures must be inspected to ensure structural integrity.
Installation and commissioning
The Brewing Artisan will assist with the installation of new machinery and mechanical systems. This includes aligning and leveling equipment during installation and supporting commissioning and testing activities to ensure equipment is ready for operation.
Inspection and troubleshooting
Routine inspections of mechanical systems are part of the role. The artisan must identify issues such as wear, misalignment, vibration, and abnormal noise, then report possible failures and recommend corrective actions before they lead to serious breakdowns.
Documentation and reporting
The role requires maintaining accurate maintenance records and service logs. The successful candidate will also report on completed work, materials used, and assist in preparing maintenance schedules and operational reports.
Teamwork and support
The Brewing Artisan will work closely with electricians, technicians, and supervisors to ensure smooth operations. The role also includes providing technical support during equipment breakdowns and mentoring junior artisans or apprentices when required.
Required skills and competencies
Candidates should have strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and proven ability in welding and metal fabrication.
